While implementing a grant program from @razom.for.ukraine to provide border communities with seed, our team met the Kolchenko family.
We would like to report back and tell you a little bit of the family’s story from Olya’s mom👇.
“We are immigrants from Vorozhba, Sumy region (15 km to Russia), since the beginning of the war the town has been under constant shelling, and since March 10, 2022, it was captured by Russia. We went through a lot of hardships. During the occupation of the city, I lived in the basement with my children for a month with a newborn baby (I had 3 small children + a newborn). Because of the constant horror and stress, I had no milk, no baby formula. I had nothing to feed the children. We had only one semolina porridge, which was cooked and eaten by everyone. That’s how we survived… My husband was drafted into the Armed Forces, so I was alone with the children.
After the de-occupation of Vorozhba, we had to leave everything behind and flee. At first we moved to Kyiv, and when the capital and the region began to be shelled, we decided to return to Sumy region, to the town of Buryn. We have a large family: four children of our own, and two children of my godmother live with me because my godmother has a part-time job in Vorozhba.
We have a 20-hectare garden that “feeds” us. So we have to plant the garden, and we are very grateful for the seeds and fertilizer, we will plant it and then harvest it! We have also received humanitarian kits (food and hygiene) from the Helpgroup Foundation. We thank everyone who helps us.
